The aptly named Equanimity, the industry’s first luxury super yacht fully complaint with the Passenger Yacht Code (PYC), has been delivered by Oceanco. With a name derived from the Latin acquus, meaning balanced, and animus, meaning spirit or internal state, the concept of Equanimity is reflected in her overall designed with perfect balance from her inner core to her exterior.
Oceanco CEO Marcel Onkenhout noted that his company worked together with Lloyd’s Register and the Cayman Islands Shipping Registry to design, develop, engineer and build the 91.5m yacht, which is expected to set new industry standards. With a 14.5m beam, Equanimity’s styling represents a partnership between Oceanco and Andrew Winch design. Oriental-inspired themes are represented in materials like wenge, golf leaf, bam boom and marble that create a peaceful ambiance reflecting the owners’ Chinese heritage.
The owners expect to take their new and distinctive yacht on worldwide cruises. Equanimity provide3s accommodations for 26 guests and includes a magnificent master suite with private exterior area that includes an outdoor whirlpool, three VIP, three doubles and two twin staterooms. The ample living quarters also include accommodations for 28 crew members.
Luxury amenities include a sauna, hammam, experiential showers, plunge pool, multi-faced beauty salon, a full-equipped gym and Pilates studio, the latter of which may be extended through a fold-down platform to create an indoor-outdoor fitness area. Equanimity also features two Zodiac Fast Rescue Ribs and two 10.5m Hodgdon tenders. The upper deck has a fully certified helipad that meets CAP437 standards and meet PYC requirements.
Equanimity is constructed with a steel hull and aluminum superstructure and twin 4,828hp/3,600kW MTU 20V 4000 M73L engines enabling her to reach speeds in excess of 20 knots along with a fuel capacity of 271,000 litres.
