A new procedure recently announced by New Zealand governmental authorities will significantly streamline the process for superyachts chartering in the country’s waters. Working in conjunction with the country’s Temporary Import Entry (TIE), the procedure eliminates the need for a bond along with the owner’s written guarantee to leave New Zealand waters after 24 months. Charter time must take up less than 65% of the vessel’s purpose within New Zealand waters.
Superyachts in New Zealand waters hold TIE will also benefit from a zero GST rating for goods and service, except when under actual charter. Crew qualifications may be cross credited to New Zealand equivalents by Maritime NZ. The move by the New Zealand government is significant as it capped off a year where the country made substantial moves to make New Zealand’s charter prospects more friendly.
