Dutch shipbuilder Amels has announced completion of its new custom superyacht building that will allow the company to product one-off yachts in the 80- to 110-meter segment. The new builds will complement Amels Limited Editions, ranging from 55 to 83 meters and the company’s refit division.
Amels is known for its Limited Edition yachts that feature exteriors by Tim Heywood. The full custom division will pick up where the semi-custom line leaves off, with a slight overlap at the 80-meter length and allows customers to decide what type of luxury yacht best suits their needs.
The Dutch shipbuilder’s move to large, custom build is a response to client feedback as well as a shifting market. Amels Managing Director Rob Luijendijk has indicated that yacht owners have been asking the company for larger yachts, in particular, custom designs. That trend has resulted in the expansion of the Limited Editions line with the 83-meter Limited Editions 272 flagship currently in build and due for delivery by the end of 2016.
Although Amels currently boasts a full order book with nine yachts in build, the company is confident in its ability to take on new customer projects as it has perfected its build process over the last several years. The company is also adding to existing facilities by commissioning the construction of a climate-controlled 200-meter dry dock.
