July finished well for boat sales in the United States with 3,388 boats worth an aggregate $333 million changing hands, an increase of 2 percent for volume and 12 percent for price over the same month in 2014.
The segment making the largest volume gain were boats in the 36- to 45-foot range, increasing 13 percent from 665 to 750. The 26- to 35-foot segment has 5 percent growth with 1,305 boats sold. The only area to see a significant decrease was boats smaller than 26 feet with a 9 percent drop to 1,043.
Total price also increased by double-digit percentages in three segments, led by boats in the 56-foot to 79-foot range where aggregate price jumped 23 percent with $51 million spent on 73 boats. Boat 36 to 45 feet had the highest value with $100 million in sales representing a 17 percent increase. Average price for a boat in this segment was $134,000, 4 percent more than in the same month the previous year.
The only segment with lower sales, boats under 36 feet, had an aggregate of $26 million, translating to a drop of 3 percent, but the average price increase for this range by 7 percent to almost $25,000.
Powerboat sales increase by 2 percent for the month with 2,829 units sold, while sailboats climbed 5 percent to 559 boats sold.
