A superyacht believed to be the 33m M/Y Aloha sank off the Greek Island of Mykonos last week after running aground on a reef shortly before dawn. All the passengers aboard the Ferretti Custom Line Navatta 33 managed to escape the vessel before it went under. Unnamed sources claim that the yacht also suffered electrical problems that prevented its safety equipment from working.
Local reports from the Mykonos Times said that four foreigners were on board the superyacht with an American flag, believed to be worth just over $6 million. Local port officials set up a boom around the vessel to absorb and fuel or oil that may leek into the sea and have launched an investigation into the incident.
M/Y Aloha was delivered by Ferretti to its unnamed owner in 2009. The vessel had five passenger cabins with room for 10 guests.
