Yacht Sales Boost American Market in Third Quarter, Powerboats lead the way: Third quarter 2015 brokerage boat sales in the United States increased 2 percent over the same period in 2014, numbering 8,763 units. Total value rose 6 percent with $871.6 million in sales. The average price increased to $99,466 from $95,478.
Sales volume for the first three quarters was off 1 percent from the previous year at 24,365 sales, offset by an increase in total value of 5 percent at $2.91 million. Average final increased by 6 percent while average days needed to sell a boat decreased from 270 to 265 days.
Powerboat and sailboat sales increased marginally during the third quarter, but powerboats fueled pricing, up 6 percent on average for each sale. Sailboat prices declined by 5 percent. Through the first three quarters, powerboat sales stayed virtually even, while sailboat sale declined by 3 percent. All market gain was on the power side.
Sales of larger vessels general increased in the third quarter, although those over 80 feet declined incrementally. Sales increased among all size range from 36 to 79 feet, with greatest growth occurring in boats 56 to 79 feet, increasing 20 percent with 214 units sold. Values in this category increased 41 percent. Year-to-date, sales volume for boats 56 to 79 feet was up 6 percent and up 4 percent for boats 46 to 55 feet.
In the motor yacht category, the five most popular brands during the first three quarters of 2015 were Sea Ray, Carver, Bayliner, Silverton and Hatteras, with Hatteras commanding the largest average sale price at $533,323.
