Superyacht Nibani Refloated After Running Aground Near Rome: The Port Authority of Rome helped refloat the 40m yacht Nibani after she recently ran aground on a beach in the tourist port of Ostia. Reportedly the yacht lost control after exiting the port’s breakwall, leading the vessel to slowly drift to shore.
Upon hearing the situation, the Port Authority acted quickly by order two tugboats to help remove the yacht from the beach. At the same time, an anti-pollution vessel and divers ere deployed to inspect and combat any possible pollution to the area. Port authorities halted operations until Nibani was safely moved to open waters.
The salvage team waited until the morning of the day after the grounding to execute the procedure to await high tides as well as to remove weighted objects such as anchors. Nibani was towed stern-first and take to a nearby shipyard. The operation was completed without any marine or property damage. The extent of damage suffered by the yacht has yet to be quantified.
Nibani, custom built in 1971 by Maritima de Axpe, and previously named Les Girls Delfino, has a steel hull and superstructure. Arthur de Fever designed her exterior, while her interior was designed by Puleo Inc. She underwent refits in 1997 and 2003. Nibani offers accommodation for up to 10 guests and nine crewmembers. She has a range of 12,000nm and atop speed of 12 knots.
