156 Meter Superyacht Project "Omar" Launched by Lurssen

156 Meter Superyacht Project "Omar" Launched by Lürssen: German shipyard Lürssen has launched the 156m superyacht Project Omar, which could possibly be the largest yacht ever when measured by gross tonnage, surpassing the current record holder, the 180mAzzam. She previously underwent a technical launch at the Lürssen facility earlier this year and is expected to be delivered to her owners sometime in 2016.

Not many details are known about this steel-hulled yacht  hat is reportedly being built by Russian billionaire Alisber Usmanov, who already owns the 110m Lürssen Dilbar. She wasn’t even listed under Lürssen’s list of yachts in build, but was entered under a “custom” billing.  Project Omar, with seven decks and built to Lloyds registry standards, will be the fourth largest yacht in the world when delivered in 2016.

Her sheer size and volume nonwithstanding, she has already received much praise by those who have already seen her exterior design. Although there is o official word, speculation indicates that she is either the work of Tim Heywood or Espen Øino. When the superyacht emerged from her shed, it was clear that she will be the new sister of Dilbar.Despite being more than 45 meter longer in length, the resemblance between the two yachts is uncanny and include identical logos.

DILBAR named his existing yacht after his late mother, so it is a fitting tribute that his new replacement yacht bears her name again.
