Nautica Italiana Seeking to Expand in the United States: Nautica Italiana, the Italian marine association comprised of some of the industry’s most prestigious brands, and affiliated with Fondazione Altagamma, is seeking to capitalize on recent growth presented by the American market. Data presented by the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) indicates that the American boating industry has grown six percent per year over the last five years, a trend that is expected to continue.
Growth in the United States is the result of 88 million-plus people sailing, with overall spending of more than $37 million. NMMA data shows that more than 95 percent of boats used in the United States are domestically manufactured.
Lamberto Tacoli, Nautica Italiana chairman indicated that the greatest opportunity for Italian manufacturers lies in cracking the domestic market. Trends from 2015 and 2016 forecast indicate that the United States is a market with strong broth potential with a high appreciation and deep-rooted passion that offer great opportunities for high-end Italian companies.
Italian companies already produce the majority of the boats used, but not manufactured in the United States. Nautica Italiana believes Italian boat manufacturers can increase their presence in the U.S. market by targeting the highest end of the market.
Giovanna Vitelli, Nautica Italiana vice president, noted that North American and Latin American visitors to the recent Miami International Boat Show had growing interest in all-Italian products, with many association members returning home with open negotiations that will hopefully turn into sales and purchase agreements.
