February Yacht Values Rise, Volume Down Slightly: In February 2016, 552 boats changed hands in the 26- to-35-foot category, a figure that was 50 units smaller than for the same month a year ago. While that segment typically has more sales than others, the number of boats sold during the month was nearly equal in the under-26-foot segment, with 551 boats exchanging hands, a 4% gain over the previous February.
At the same time, average prices remained relatively unchanged for that 26-to 35-foot segment, up by $1,000 to $25,100. The other segment contributing to overall lower sales was the 46- to 55-foot range, declining 20 boats to 105. Total value in that category declined 22%, with average prices dropping from $315,00 to $294,000.
Overall increase in value in the American market came from the higher average value of boats 80 feet and longer in length. Volume in that category increased from 14 to 15, while total price rose from $29.2 million to $55.1 million, representing an average price gain of 76% from $2.1 million to $3.7 million.
