Megayacht Builder Turquoise Yachts Completes Major Building Construction: Turkish shipyard Turquoise Yachts has complete construction of a main shed extension, along with a 2500 ton floating dock, following a year of work. The addition boosts the company capacity to 10 simultaneous superyacht projects.
Mehmet Krabyoglu, Turquoise CEO, noted that the shipyard always planned to build larger yachts, but when the company came under the ownership of Dr. Al Barwanhi, the shipyard decided to build up to 85 meters. In addition to owning Turquoise, Al Barwanhi also owns Oceanco, the Dutch shipyard that builds almost entirely above 80 meters. Oceanco’s last sub-80-meter build was the 75.5m Anastasia, delivered in 2008.
The new shed , at 165m long and 40m wide, makes larger projects tenable, even though the shipyard won’t actively seek to build larger yachts. However Karabeyoglu won’t deny the possibility of eventually building larger projects. Such a project may come from a request from one of current owners. Karabeyoglu indicated that the building vestments was more of a necessity for in-house builds rather than to build larger yachts.
The shed extension has granted extra capacity to be dedicated to several larger projects. The shipyard is also available now to simultaneously accommodate three superyachts with an average LOA of 80 meters.
Karabeyoglu noted that unlike other yards, Turquoise doesn’t assemble boats, but builds them, doing the hulls, superstructures, piping and even cutting marble in house. Even the new dry dock was built in-house—in the new shed—attesting to the company’s dedication to in-house production.
