American Yacht Sales Figures in April Show Normal Spring Increases: American yacht brokerage sales increased by nearly 500 boats from March to April, reflecting a normal spring rise in sales. When compared with the April 2015, yacht sales increased by one percent. The strongest sellers were boats 36 to 45 feet with a seven percent increase, while the 46- to 55-foot category saw steep declines.
Powerboat sales increased one percent in April while sailboat sales dropped by the same percentage, selling 2,456 and 470 boats, respectively. Total value of powerboats dropped three percent to $428 million. Aggregate value of sailboats was $36.2 million, a seven percent increase over the same month in 2015.
Sales trends from the first quarter remained constant for most length ranges. Boats in 26 feet and those 36 to 45 feet continued to show higher unit sales. Bots in the 46- to 45-foot range showed the fastest growth, with sales increasing seven percent as 598 boats exchanged hands. Total price paid in this size category rose by eight percent with $83.6 million in sales. Weaker categories were boats 46 to 55 feet, down 18 percent on sales of 140 units and 56 to 79 feet, down seven percent to 68 units sold. Average prices were higher in both categories, up 12 and 15 percent, respectively.
For boats 80 feet and longer, April yacht sales were strong, rising from 18 to 27 vessels sold, even though total price declined $17 million to $178.7 million. American yacht sales through the first four months of 2016 increased two percent to 8,500 boats sold.
