Superyacht Market Has New Player, Latvian Shipbuilder Latitude, Enters With Two Trimarans: Talk about making a splash. Latvian shipbuilder Latitude has entered the superyacht market with the launch of two identical 53m trimarans. Designed by Latitude’s in-house team, the two superyachts, constructed over 2-1/2 years, are nowhere near ordinary as they feature futuristic design.
Established in 2006, Latitude has created a variety of vessels, including battery-powered commuter ferries, floating restaurants and catamarans, all under 30 meters in length. The shipyard has taken its operations one step further by producing two of the largest trimarans ever built. With only 15 trimaran yachts over 30 meters, these two new yachts provide an additional and uncommon dimension to the market.
Vladis Irbe, Latitude co-owner, noted that the two trimarans are the result of more than two years of intense, complicated and interesting work that was a great challenge and a source of pride for the company.
Christened Galaxy and Galaxy of Happiness, the two trimarans launched in early May were in-house projects for both design and naval architecture. Both hulls were construction from a variety of composite materials using patented Sprint Pre-preg and other cutting edge technology.
Built specifically for the Middle East, both trimarans will be delivered there following extensive sea trials. Each is equipped with twin 5200 HP engines that are able to exceed 28 knots because of the multihull form.
