New Zealand and Fiji Jointly Promoting Superyacht Industry: The yachting industry in Fiji along with a number of New Zealand’s marine companies will jointed host an pen day at Port Denarau Marine and Yacht Club, Fiji, on August 5, to engage with superyacht owners ad their crews. The purpose of this educational, networking and social event is to stimulate the superyacht market in those two countries. This joint event is the first of its kind and is part of a wider initiative to attract superyachts to the area.
In commenting about the event, Peter Busfield, NZMarine executive director, indicated that cooperating with the Fijian yacht industry make sense. Event organizers hope to gather information needed for superyachts owners and crew to enjoy a longer stay in the Pacific and make the most of their time in the area.
New Zealand’s well-established refit and maintenance sections, its destinations and marinas will be showcased in presentations. Representatives from 25 New Zealand marine companies will be on hand.
Because superyachts require periodic refits, New Zealand is the perfect location for yachts cruising the Pacific to escape the cyclone season and tend to maintenance while also being able to cruise the country and Australia before returning to Fiji, Tahiti and other Pacific islands. The open day will also feature seminars on passage planning between Fiji and New Zealand, Weather patterns, customs clearance and bio-security requirements.
Vessels visiting New Zealand recently receive the ability to stay in the country for up to two years thanks to a 24-month temporary import entry (TIE) issued by the country’s customs authority. This provisions allows superyachts to undertake a mixture of private use, charters and maintenance, most of which will be exempt from the local 15% goods and services tax.
