Megayacht Builder Christensen Launches 50m Silver Lining Via Unique Process: The first yacht to come out of the Washington State megayacht shipyard Christensen since its change of ownership is the 50m Silver Lining, recently launched from the yard’s facility.
Christensen accomplished the launch via a unique cradle-and-launcher system designed to be safer and more flexible. The shipyard manufactures a 140,000-pound steel cradle attached to two large FRP flotation boxes, which provide additional lift in low water conditions, keeping the yacht perfectly stable during the launch process. Once the yacht and cradle are in the air, launchers are replaced by water as in a dry dock and the yacht can float free on her own. The device is called the Luken Launcher, named after Henry Luken, who took over the shipyard last year.
Inside, she features a black walnut interior and unique stonework throughout designed by Kimberly Graham. Up to 12 guests over six staterooms can reside onboard. She is built to ABS Unlimited Cruising and is under 300 U.S regulatory gross tonnage.
Silver Lining is the first of two vessels that Christensen is scheduled to launch this year, the second being her sister ship Chasseur. Both owners will receive their new vessels and will be on display at the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show at the end of the year.
