Otam Launches First Megayacht, the 35m Gipsy: Known for its high-speed craft up to 80 feet, Otam has launched its first megayacht at its shipyard in Genoa, Italy. Gipsy will be delivered to her Italian owner following her final sea trials and outfitting. After the summer cruising season, she will appear at the Monaco Yacht Show in September.
Tomasso Spadoini created the exterior and interior areas and is the driving forced before Gipsy’s unique layout as defined by her owner, who wanted clean lines and a big volume with defined areas for each use.
Apart from the wheelhouse, the entire upper deck is dedicated to the owner’s use. An apartment-style suite leads to a private aft deck lined with sun beds and an intimate dining area. Guest traffic is eliminated through this area by moving all exterior staircases to the starboard side of each deck, which adds to Spadolini’s clean profile.
Because this superyacht project was the company’s first, Otam was open to the idea of creating a unique product to the market. Matteo Belardinelli, Otam sales and communication manager, noted that the owner’s requests were ”slightly off the beaten track” when compared with other vessels of this size. Because of Otam’s flexibility, they were able to create a custom layout suited to the owner’s needs.
A key feature onboard is the oversize galley on the main deck that is located amidships. It separates the main saloon from the 53-square-meter formal dining area, which is set in the full beam of the hull, a prime space usually reserved for the master suite. Large windows on either side offer exceptional views during the dining experience.
Four additional guest cabin, two twins and two doubles, are on the lower deck. A central corridor leads to the crew area, finished with the same quality and style as the guest accommodations. Crew well being played an essential role during the design phase as a series of corridors and exterior access points allows them to move freely throughout the yacht without disturbing the guests. Working with Spadoini on the interior was Laura Mirabella, Otam’s interior architect, who oversaw outfitting and final decoration of guest areas.
During her sea trials, Gipsy reached a top speed of 20 knots. She will have a range of over 2,000nm at an economical cruising speed of 11 knots.
