New Monaco Mega Yacht Marina to Open in 2018

megayacht marina monacoNew Monaco Mega Yacht Marina to Open in 2018: Construction work has begun on a new Monaco-based megayacht marina that is expected to be fully operational by summer 2018, with complete delivery of offices and amenities by summer 2019.

The December 2016 purchase of Cala del Forte by Société Monégasque Internationale Portuaire (SMIP) allows the marine to be fully integrated into the management of the Ports of Monaco. Cala del Forte will come under Monaco’s centralized booking system that also manages Port Hercule and the port of Fontvieille.

Located in Ventimiglia, the new marina will have 171 total berths, ranging from 6.5 meters to 60 meters.  Interested yacht owners can purchase berths solely through Supertoys Monaco on the basis of 40-year leases. Upon completion, Cala del Forte will have one of the longest available concessions on the Riviera.

The marina project has several unique advantages as the area is well sheltered in all weather conditions. Unique road access via tunnel makes the marina particularly secure. The location and shape of the outer walls provide excellent shelter for boats and allow water to circulate efficiently throughout the marina.

SMIP is making every effort to ensure that all berths and quays in Cala Del Forte will be operational by the 2018 season.  Commercial buildings, shops and underground parking will be completed by the following summer. The previous develop had already carried out 40% of the work, but the project had been on hold for years.

A public elevator or a cable railroad will connect Cala Del Forte with the old town of Ventimiglia.  SMIP is currently reviewing various options for pedestrian access between the marine and the historic town center just above. A variety of services will be available on site, including a shipyard, shops and gardens.

SMIP does not intend to sell all of the berths in the marina as it prefers to provide a limited number of resident berths to achieve a balance between permanent and visiting yachts. In other marinas where a majority of berths have been sold to private individuals, concessionary companies have faced obstacles to effectively manage the port. Thus, the number of berths that will be available to long-term leaseholders will be limited.
