Founder Robert J. Newton and his sons ran a custom boatyard in Hong Kong. In the early 1960s through a collaboration with Kenneth Smith, they designed and produced Spray, a 36-foot diesel cruiser with workman-like lines. This design forms the basis of today's Grand Banks Heritage series with boats ranging in length from 43 feet to 54 feet.
Grand Banks trawlers followed that design with the Eastbay Series, based on traditional downeast lobster trawlers, with models running 45 feet to 55 feet. The launch of the luxurious Aleutian Series in 2001 featured traditional raised pilothouse watercraft with traditional designs in a larger format up to 76 feet in length that added a new level of style and sophistication along with the seaworthiness that customers have come to expect.
Today, Grand Banks builds its often imitated, high performance trawlers out of its state-of-the-art shipyard in Malaysia. With many Grand Banks trawler models currently in production over three series, it's time to treat yourself to the gold standard of the cruising industry.
