Benetti Launches Second 100m-Plus Superyacht: Italian manufacturer Benetti has launched the second of its 100-meter-plus superyachts constructed at its shipyard in Livorno. The 107.6-meter Project FB272 is slated to become one of the 40 largest yachts in the world upon her completion later this year. Her build was commissioned in 2014.
FB272’s owner conceived the unique profile of this six-deck megayacht. Prior to contract, the owner spent significant time in the development of the exterior design, first with Hugo van Weiringen from Asure Naval Architects and then with Raymond Langton Design and Zaniz Jakubowski of Zaniz Interiors. Giorgio Cassetta helped refined the exterior design post contract with Zaniz Interiors, who took over responsibility for the yacht’s interior and exterior design.
The superyacht features a hybrid propulsion system with diesel-electric engines and two 2,200 kW Azipod propulsion units connected to a special battery pack to enable completely vibration-free and silent navigation, per the owner’s wishes.
Six generators of approximately 1,000 kW each provide electricity, managed electronically by a fully integrated power management system that feeds on-board service and the two Azipod units. Spare electricity will also charge 35 tons of batteries that can operate the yacht for up to 12 hours without the engines running. FB272 will reach a top speed of 17 knots and a cruising speed of 15 knots.
With a volume of 5500 GT, she is build to Lloyd’s Register Class. The interior design maintains a sense of connection with the outside world with three-meter high windows encompassing 800 square meters of glass flooding the interior with light. Her exterior lines include a straight bow ad a huge forward deck area.
One of her main features is a helicopter landing pad with a fueling station accessible from a private deck. FB272 also features an advanced Lutron domotic system with approximately 500 kilometers of cable across her hull and superstructure.
Her main deck offers substantial dining and social spaces sheltered by the overhang of her superstructure. Vast quantities of glass wrap the main decks, with the hull incorporating a long horizontal strip of glazing from mid-ship to stern. On the upper deck, the windows are completely uninterrupted by the structure to give each deck a floating appearance.
FB272 is the second of three superyachts larger than 100 meters scheduled for delivery this year. She follows the launch of FB277 in December. The third, FB275, is scheduled for an April launch.
Azimut Benetti President Paolo Viteli noted that more than two million work hours from over 100 suppliers went into the build, which had a significant impact on the local economy.
