Cape Charles Yacht Center to Expand Operations: Big changes are underway at the Virginia-based Cape Charles Yacht Center. A new team of investors is making plans to develop the center with service refits to accommodate superyachts, which will include a 30,000-square-foot facility, a 600-ton mobile hoist and floating docks. The changes will also make the center suitable for international vessels seeking service and major refits.
Investors and industry professionals JB Turner and Nicole Jacques have high hopes for the expansion. Turner, founder, president and general manager of Front Street Shipyard in Maine says customer feedback about the location has been very positive, as well as the quality of service and amenities. He said its central location between New England and Florida made it the ideal place for an expansion for superyacht services.
Nicole Jacques is also a Maine-based business owner. Her marketing company, Rhumbline Communications, specializes in launching new marine businesses into the global marketplace. She said the first order of business will be to expand the workforce at the center. The center will also gain more modern equipment that will allow for a multi-year expansion into service and refit. They intend to maintain the center’s current standards of excellent service during the expansion. The center will remain open during the upgrades.
The Cape Charles Yacht Center opened in 2014 as there was a need for a superyacht facility in the Mid-Atlantic. Located at the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay, the center is on a deep-water (18-foot/5.49-meter) channel, and 12 miles from the Atlantic Ocean, making it accessible to both power and sailing yachts. It has 1,000 feet of face dockage for megayachts up to 200 feet, plus a 75-ton hoist, and sits within a duty-free Foreign Trade Zone.
