In 2016, CdM joined forces with Swiss company Floating Life to develop “Series-K,” an explorer range developed in collaboration with Studio Sculli for design and Studio Hydrotec for naval architecture. The new 42m vessel is part of this range and the first project from the newly launched side of the business called the CdM “One Off” Unit. M/Y K42, as it is current known, is on track for delivery at the end of 2018.
The new strategy will not affect production of the two Darwin Class and Nauta Air lines that have a maximum of four deliveries per year. The new One-Off section of the shipyard will begin to manage bespoke builds within the 24 -45m segment and ensure that the new builds will reflect the DNA of CdM. It will deliver only one project every 18 to 24 months by a dedicated team specifically created for such projects.
Over the last six years, CdM has fostered relationships with owners, designers and design engineers around the world, all of who have unique styles and influences close to those of the shipyard but don’t always fall within the two ranges. Therefore, CdM will address a small number of projects that will remain consistent with its mission.
CdM Sales and Marketing Director Vasco Buonpensiere said the development of the One Off unit has been a natural evolution as the shipyard has been ask for years to build such projects but has always declined such projects because it wanted to build such ventures on the best possible foundation. The unit is already working on an additional custom explorer yacht scheduled for delivery in 2019.
