Damaged Superyacht My Song Hauled Out of Water Near Palma: The 40-meter racing yacht My Song, which fell overboard while being transported on a cargo ship from the Caribbean to the Mediterranean, has been hauled out of Italian waters near Palma de Mallorca. Local sources indicate that the hull sustained serious damage.
My Song fell off the 138-meter cargo vessel Brattingsborg, reportedly after encountering rough weather. An initial assessment has indicated that the yacht’s cradle, warrantied for sea transport and assembled by the yacht’s crew, collapsed, resulting in the loss of the sailboat into the sea. The Brattingsborg crew maintained contact with My Song, whose stern was under water, until a third-party salvage team came in to manage the situation. No other boats on the transport were affected.
My Song was on her way to Genoa, Italy, to participate in the Loro Piana Superyacht Regatta, which she and her crew won last year. Pier Luigi is her owner.
Constructed by Baltic Yachts, My Song was considered a force within the full-carbon superyacht market. Reichel Pugh Yacht Design was responsible for exterior design and naval architecture for the yacht, which was delivered in 2016. She has a 56-meter mast, a displacement of 99 tons and a maximum speed of more than 30 knots.
Baltic Yachts CEO Henry Hawkins noted that Pier Luigi and the yacht’s insurance company will have to determine the yacht’s fate. Baltic Yachts has a repair facility in Palma de Mallorca and is standing by to offer assistance.
