Damen Introduces Power Play to Its Superyacht Support Vessel Lineup: Dutch shipyard Damen has introduced another vessel in its every-growing superyacht support vessel fleet. The new 55.5-meter project is called Power Play and is the sixth vessel in the shipyard’s popular YX 5009 series, which now totals 11 vessels with a cumulative LOA of 628.8 meters. Due for a summer launch, Power Plays follows in the footsteps of Ad-Vantage, Axis and Shadow.
Damen product director Mark Vermeulen noted that a new generation of owners are driving the market with unconventional thinking as they are planning adventures and getting involved in underwater exploration, science, film making and racing yachts events.
Power Play has been configured with several new features that qualify it as an adventure vessel. These include a 50-square meter dive center and facilities for operating in zero-discharge zones. Damen is the only manufacturer within the top 40 shipyard rankings manufacturing superyacht support vessels.
Similar to Shadow, Power Play will offer accommodation for as many as six guests split across three cabins, thus allowing owners to have a short trip away from the mothership. The main deck lounge and the sundeck will offer panoramic views.
Typical superyacht support functions are evident with a 12-ton deck crane and a stern A- frame for hauling heavy toys such as a submersible. Crew quarters will accommodate an operational staff of seven and four additional individuals such as pilots, security guards or local guides.
Propulsion system details have yet to be disclosed, but Damen estimates she will reach a top speed of 20 knots on the open water.
