Developed in collaboration with British design firm RWD, this is the first Feadship to feature an unfaired hull. Naval architecture is by DeVoogt Naval Architects. Prior to her launch, Sherpa had not yet gained her mast and additional features for her upper deck due to height restrictions in her build shed.
The owner who commission Sherpa is a repeat Feadship customer. Sherpa’s name reflects her immense carrying capacity, with vast expanses of open deck space for storing everything from tenders to helicopters. Her two gigantic boom cranes are part of the reason why Feadship had to move her out of the construction shed, as these will be the largest ever fitted to a yacht coming out of the facility with a maximum reach of 20 meters. More work must also be finished on her lower decks, but the owner has also requested that her steel plate welding not be covered by fairing as befitting the look of a rugged explorer.
Installation of her dedicated wheelhouse, another Feadship first, and a towering mast with a built-in elevator and observation platform followed her launching. These features will make Sherpa the tallest Feadship in the yard’s fleet when she is delivered later this year.
Sherpa will also carry substantial-size tenders along with other modes of land transportation. A below-decks garage and a portion of the main aft deck aft will house land and watercraft. To launch them, Sherpa will have equally substantial telescopic cranes, one that can extend up to 12 meters while the other extends nearly 20 meters. These scopes ensure they can reach the helicopter deck above, among other areas.
Above all, Sherpa is full of luxury. She has teak decks and polished stainless steel detailing, a main deck master suite, a formal dining area and an observation lounge. All six guest cabins are on the main deck too, consisting of two VIPs, three twin staterooms and a single stateroom to accommodate up to 13 guests. Crew accommodations are for 22.
With a beam of 13.2 meters, she will also offer plenty of room for relaxation. The tender garage may also be converted into a beach club via a system of folding and rotating bulwarks.
A pair of twin MTU 16V4000 M53R engines will give her a top speed of 15.7 knots and a range of 5,200 nm at 13 knots.
