Heesen Announces Project Cosmos, Largest Superyacht Project to Date: Dutch shipyard Heesen Yachts has announced the sale of its largest superyacht to date, an 80.07-meter vessel called Project Cosmos. The new build contract is Heesen’s second of 2018, with delivery slated for 2022.
Project Cosmos’ owners have elected Winch Design to create a streamlined yacht with innovative design that still retains Heesen’s DNA, namely muscular sportiness and timeless elegance. Extensive use of glass along with soft and sculpted shapes gives Project Cosmos a contemporary charm.
Upon completion, Project Cosmos at 1,700GT will be the world’s largest and fastest full-aluminum superyacht. She is projected to have a top speed of 29 knots, powered by four MTU 20V diesel engines. The Van Oossanen-designed fast displacement hull contributes to superb performance and cruising efficiency.
Both her length and her volume are notable for Heesen as the interior will be 60% bigger than that of Project Falcon, announced in February. Heesen sales director Mark Cavendish noted that the combined gross tonnage of the shipyard’s latest two projects exceeds the entire Heesen 3700 series, which produced 10 hulls over eight years. Project Cosmos and Project Falcon will be in the water within four years.
Key features include a crystal elevator from the lower to sun deck, a seven-meter pool, a beach club with a walk-around bar and a fully custom limousine tender housed in a forward tender garage. Accommodations are for 12 guests split across six cabins, including a main deck master suite, bridge deck VIP and flour lower deck cabins. The crew quarters will accommodate a staff of 19.
The superyacht will also include a fully rated helipad capable of hosting a Eurocopter EC135. That space can be easily converted into an al fresco cinema.
Winch Design first collaborated with Heesen Yachts on the 66-meter Avanti, launched in September 2017. The average LOA of Heesen’s vessels has gradually increased from 42.9 meters in 2013 to 50.7 meters in 2017. The shipyard recently delivered the 50-meter VanTom and has four additional yachts scheduled for delivery in 2018.
