Heesen Delivers 50m Mega Yacht VanTom: Dutch shipyard Heesen has delivered VanTom, the latest mega yacht in their 5000 Aluminum class. Previously known as Project Alba, the 50-meter VanTom is the sixth yacht in the series. She was started on speculation in 2015 and sold six months into the build.
The semi-displacement range was designed by Frank Laupman of Omega Architects. Heesen designed this series to allow for considerable customization. The owners work closely with Francesco Paszkowski and Margherita Casprini during the two-year project. The interior, reportedly has an understated elegance makes it feel more like a home than a yacht. Heesen’s in-house carpentry team crafted custom furniture for the yacht as well as the finish work on the walls and cabinets. VanTom’s master suite is forward on the main deck, while five additional guest suites are on the lower deck to accommodate a total of 12 passengers. Crew quarters can accommodate nine.
VanTom reportedly handled well during sea trials in the North Sea, giving a smooth even ride while traveling at more than 20 knots and substantial winds of 16 knots. She actually beat her contractual speed by 0.3 knots, reaching a top speed o f 23.3 knots on twin 3,860 hp MTU 16V 4000 M73L diesel engines. At 11 knots, she has a range of 3,100 miles. The mega yacht series has a highly efficient hard-chine hull and propulsion system that is quiet and virtually vibration free.
