Sold in December 2013, Galactica Super Nova was engineered by the Dutch shipyard’s in-house specialists in collaboration with Van Oosanen Naval Architects who devised the revolutionary fast displacement hull form, which has played a prominent role in the creation of several Heesen yachts. The entire process took 41 months to complete.
The sea trials took place over four days in late April under reportedly good weather conditions. In addition, the superyacht exceeded her contractual speed of 30 knots by 0.3 knots, thanks to not only the innovative hull, but also to twin MTU wing engines with fixed pitch propellers and a third central engine with a Rolls Royce booster jet.
Perry Van Oossanen noted that the vessel’s propulsion layout, using fixed pitch propellers in combination with a booster jet is relatively simple and easy to operate and can be applied on any scale in conjunction with the fast displacement hull. Thus, extra power easily translates into speed.
Espen Øino, world-renowned superyacht designer, crafted Galactica Super Nova’s striking exteriors, working on a pre-established technical platform provided by Heesen.
Delivery of this 70m superyacht marks a milestone in the Dutch shipyard’s history, underlining Heesen’s prominence in the superyacht market as it is one of few shipyards that has demonstrated consistency in this area. She is the 93rd superyacht delivered by Heesen during the manufacturer’s 33 years of operation, making an average of 2.8 yachts per year. Since 2000, Heesen has delivered an average of four yachts per year.
Galactica Super Nova will debut this September at the Monaco Yacht Show where the public will be able to view the interiors designed by Sinot Yacht Design.
