Heesen Reveals New 50m Superyacht: The first vessel in the new 5000 Aluminum Class superyacht by Heesen Yachts has been revealed. Designed by the Dutch shipyard’s in-house team in collaboration with Van Oossanen Naval Architects, the project bears the name Aquamarine.
Aquamarine has already undergone computational fluid dynamics and optimization of its hull shape. A model of the new project has also bee tested in a towing tank in Southampton, England. The hull’s composition reportedly as an efficiency gain of 12%, achieve by raising the yacht’s transom and incorporating propeller tunnels into the hull.
The superyacht projects raised propellers result in a reduced draught, which measures 2.15 meters. Aquamarine will also feature MTS’s new 16V M65L green oceanic engines, specially developed to operate with a SCR unit (Selective Catalytic Reduction) to reduce NOx emissions. This will make her one of the first fast-cruising superyachts below 500GT to be IMO Tier III-compliant.
Omega Architects created the exterior design for the project. Frank Laupmann of Omega noted that the new 5000 Aluminum Class combines his company’s own heritage with that of Heesen as a builder of elegant and sporty yachts. The integrated hull and body design, first seen on Galactica Star, gives a strong character to the superyacht’s profile.
