HEMY Megayacht Concept Reigns in Inefficient Beams
The HEMY concept results in a slimmer superyacht that performs better. Features include suite-like guest staterooms and apartment-like master suites. Big swimming pools and room for big water toys would be common. In fact, everything is big, including the beach club and al fresco space. The HEMY concept Laurent Giles designed is a 110m superyacht with a slim 12.5m beam. Compare these dimensions with a 110m superyacht from a European manufacturer that has a beam of 15.4 meters. That yacht also has six decks to HEMY’s five. The HEMY concept requires the same power as a 75m vessel.
David Lewis, Laurent Giles managing director indicated that the HEMY concept equipped with the same power as a 75m superyacht shows speed improvements of two to three knots. There is also a corresponding savings in fuel consumption and a range of 6,500nm at 17.5 knots.
The HEMY concept achieves these figures within a 3,000-gross-ton package. She won’t require lifeboats and will rely instead on life rafts.
Six guests suite are located on the main deck, while the owner also gets and entire deck. Thirty crew, some in single cabins, have accommodations in the entire forward portion of the lower deck. The captain and first officer each get accommodations on the topmost deck, just aft of the wheelhouse. Two beach clubs, a diver center and a cinema are among the creature comforts.
