La Ciotat Shipyards Details Mega Yacht Expansion Plans
The publicly owned company SEMIDEP-Ciotat indicates that the expansion will occur over the next four years and is now actively seeking up to three private operators to co-invest in a 40,000-suare-meter facility that would include a 4,000-ton lift, to become operational in 2021.
Work is expected to begin in late 2019, with leases being offered for up to 35 years. La Ciotat has set February 2, 2018 as the dealdine for private partners to join the project. LaCiotate is home to Blohm+Voss, Compositeworks and Monaco Marine for their refit facilities.
La Ciotat Shipyards CEO Jean-Yves Saussol said that a sustainable partnership is essentially to the success of the initiative. The shipyard currently owns a 10% market share of the superyacht refit industry with a maximum ship lift capacity of 2,000 tons. In 2017, it reopened the great drydock, which has been enlarged to accommodate yachts up to 200 meters. The 72-meter Delta Marine superyacht Albatross was the first to use the revamped facility.
