Lateral Naval Architects Formed by Superyacht Builder Oceanco and BMT Nigel Gee: Two superyacht industry big players, Dutch builder Oceanco and British engineering firm BMT Nigel, have announced the launch of a major new joint partnership called Lateral Naval Architects.
Lateral naval Architects is an engineering and naval architecture firm dedicated to yachts of more than 100 meters in size. With financial support from Oceanco, the new joint venture is essentially a spin-off of the large yacht division at BMT Nigel Gee. It’s houses in a new office on Shamrock Quay in Southampton. James Roy, BMT Nigel Gee yacht design director, is the company’s managing director, overseeing a 50-person team of engineers and naval architects.
Over the years Oceanco and BMT Nigel Gee have worked together on a number of projects. Branding consulting Peter Economidas noted that the focus of the new fir is to provide expert naval architecture end engineering service and collaborate with Oceanco’s in-house engineering, in an effort to become the “Apple of naval architecture.”
Roy, who built BMT Nigel Gee’s large yacht division over the past 12 years, said the company’s focus will be to find new solutions through asking new questions and solving problems through an indirect and creative approach.
Oceanco and PMT Nigel Gee’s collaboration began in 2008, resulting in the 92-meter Equanimity, the 86-meter Aquijo, the 110-meter Jubilee, the 107-meter Black Pearl and the soon-to-be-launched Y718.
