Lazzara Yachts Begins New Operations: After a few years absence, the Lazzara family is back in the yachting business with a new company based in Tampa, a shipyard in Turkey, and a new line of yachts. Joe Lazzara, of the well-known boatbuilding family, leads the Lazzara Yachts Group as its president. The group also markets under the name of Corona Yachts, which produces a line of catamarans.
Lazzara worked for a number of years at the engineering and design office in the shipyard his father and uncle established in Tampa until the company discontinued operation in 1990. He says the knowledge he acquired there and everything since will be used to build bigger boats, adding that technology and innovation will continue to be hallmarks of Lazzara Yachts.
Up and coming designs will bring back features of their popular motor yachts and LSX sport line. The bigger boats Lazzara refers to will measure 25 meters or more. The new sport line of yachts will measure between 30 – 32 meters.
The Corona design concept, originally known as Oasis, currently includes the Corona 67, a new 20-meter concept, and the Corona 80, a 24-meter tri-deck catamaran. Both layouts include a full-beam lower deck.
A key difference with the new Lazzara Yachts is the customization options they will offer. Lazzara indicates they will have choices in backends and flexibility with the interior design, giving them a competitive advantage. Two yachts presently under construction. One he is keeping under wraps, and the other is the LSX 65, with a length of 20.
Lazzara noted that this will be the fastest IPS boat to date with a target speed of 42-45 knots. IPS propulsion will also make it maneuverable and more economical to run. He describes it as a day boat with open areas and foldout balconies, with the unique feature of being able to walk from the beach into the master stateroom.
With a launch scheduled for 2020, the LSX 65 will make her debut at next year’s Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show.
