Although overall brokerage sales decreased in August when compared with sales from 2013, super yacht sales stood out as the only growth segment. A total of 22 power and sailing yachts were sold, up from 15 a year ago. However, the average sale price declined in this category, dipping from $4 million to $2.5 million.
All other size categories experienced opposite results, with lower sales numbers yet higher average sales prices. Sales among boats 56 feet to 79 feet were off 8 percent, while boats 26 to 35 feet and 36 to 45 were each down 5 percent.
Boats in this 26 to 35-foot category had the strongest gains in average price with 1,105 sold for an aggregate price of $61 million, a slight increase from August 2013 when 1,169 boats totaled $60 million. Average price paid rose 8 percent in this size range, going from $51,000 to $55,000.
