Oceanco’s Latest Superyacht Design Unveiled: A 105-meter design that incorporates diesel-electric propulsion and is designed for extensive cruising to remote regions, such as the North and South Poles, has been revealed by Oceanco. The Dutch shipbuilder has created a high-tech boat that is a blend between an expedition vessel and a sophisticated superyacht.
Created in collaboration with designer Timur Bozca, stylist Gina Brennan, Lateral Naval Architects and engineering and yacht expedition travel company Pelorus, superyacht Esquel features a displacement hull and a plumb bow. The concept is named after a meteorite made of metal and crystals found near a town in Patagonia.
Esquel has a 230-square meter tender garage to house tenders a variety of water toys and diving gear. The main deck features a large glass superstructure toward the stern with an enclosed pool and wellness area. She also can become a platform for scientific studies such as coral aquaculture.
Speaking on the design process, Bozca noted that the vision was to create solutions by considering human factors, technology and aesthetics. Every design has a reason. He indicated that the design has been inspired by space rocket designs but also noted that the vessel will be equally at home in the Mediterranean as in the Arctic.
The superyacht was designed to be as low maintenance as possible to reach her maximum expedition potential. Her compact diesel-electric architecture is designed to allow for autonomous operation around the world, with a cruising range of 7,000 nm and a top speed of 16.5 knots and a cruising speed of 13 knots.
Her interiors will give the yacht a home-like feel, with comfortable furniture and a mix of antiques and artifacts. Brennan has described the décor as cool and casual. Key interior spaces include a main deck saloon with a large dining table and sofas and chairs gathered around a central fireplace. The master stateroom will have an expansive panoramic portal for unspoiled views, along with a lounge and fireplace. Guest staterooms are quietly luxurious.
Several communal spaces will be inside and outside, one of which will transform into a cinema or game room. The yacht will also have a spa and wellness area that includes a gym, yoga room and hot tub. Another notable inclusion is an area for home-schooling children, with plentiful accommodation for nannies and tutors, along with labs, tools and vehicles for shore exploration.
Superyacht Esquel will carry and deploy two submarines, including a Triton submersible, a land vehicle and motorbikes along with a helicopter. She will also have laboratories for scientific experiments.
