One of the yachting highlights of summer for Americans on the east coast is the Penobscot Bay Rendezvous, August 14-17. For sailing enthusiasts looking to accumulate GMORA points, PBR puts on a great series of regatta races, along with classes for individuals who are new to racing or simply are looking for a different way to have fun.
Registration for this stellar event that includes sailboat races to all sailing yachts that have a 2014 PHRF-NE certificate, NEMA certificate or that conform t one design class rules, is now open. Yachts without a valid PHRF-NE will receive a base handicap.
In addition to the regatta, this event is known for its post-race parties. The 2014 party will have a stellar line up of local chefs each evening, Enjoy Scott Yakovenko of the Slipway at opening dinner on Thursday night. Sample Linda Bean’s Perfect Maine appetizers at Friday’s post-race party and on Saturday, Cellardoor Winery and Megunticook Market will return for the festivities.
Participation in the 2014 Rendezvous will benefit LifeFlight of Maine. For the last 15 years, this organization has given critical medical care and bridged the gap between accident scenes and hospitals or specialized treatment facilities, both in the air and on the ground, serving more than 1,500 patients each year.
