Styling and naval architecture come from the Dutch company Kroes & Poortinga, a design studio that may be unfamiliar to many in the yachting industry. The firm does have a yachting background, however, as it has created the build kit for the refit of CaryAli, along with commercial ship experiences.
Kroes & Poortinga drew inspiration for the project from bygone-era warships and strove to design the megayacht so that it would look and feel right when cruising in Scandinavian fjords or in Indonesian Islands. Above all, the design goal was to keep lines clean and practical.
In keeping with form following function, the Royal Denship 137 Expedition has tenders available on deck, a smaller one on the sundeck while the primary tender is housed on the aft deck. Two PWCs are stowed in an aft garage along with storage. The foredeck is kept clear for the crew’s use.
With the owner’s suite encompassing most of the 9.6m beam, the decks are not fully walk around, but rise up and over the master suite. The galley is aft on the main deck to better serve the main dining room and additional dining area on the bridge deck. A full-beam VIP suite and two additional staterooms are below decks, along with housing for the captain and six crew members.
Due to her expedition purpose, the vessel promises good range at 4,000 nm at 11 knots. Twin Caterpillar engines should permit a top speed of 14 knots. Delivery is expected in 2017.
