Sales volume increased significantly among Yachts 46 to 55 feet in May: May 2016 saw small boat sales drive overall market volume lower as the number of boats sold measuring under 26 feet declined 20% from the previous May, with sales declining from 1, 174 boats to 944. Sales in the 26- to 35-foot category also declined, down 7% or 101 boats to a total of 1,327 changing hands.
Despite these declines, the average price paid in both categories increased, rising $2,000 among smaller vessels to $26,000 and from $59,700 in the larger category.
Sales volume increased significantly among boats 46 to 55 feet, while sales were also higher among 36 to 45 fee, rising 3% to 745 boats sold. Average prices also rose for this segment, increasing from $134,100 to $140,600.
Sales of yachts over 56 feet declined slightly in May from 99 to 95 units. Prices for 82 boars sold in the 56- to 79-foot range fell from $77,400 to $676,600. Superyachts, however, increased in average price from $4.9 million to $5.4 million.
Overall, powerboat sales declined 8% in May from 3,309 to 2,790 boats sold. Sailboat sales also decreased by 4% from 558 to 534 sold.
Through the first five months of 2016, sales volume decreased 1% from 2015. A total of 11,821 boats exchanged hands, with the total value 3% lower at $1.57 billion in sales.
