During the calendar year 2014, shipyards worldwide received 181 new superyacht projects over 30 meters in length, a 13.8% increase over 2013 when 159 orders were placed. Motor yachts comprised almost 91% of the orders at 164, while sailing yachts numbered 14. The average size per contract was 48 meters, an increase of almost 3 meters from 2013.
The largest announced project was a 116-meter expedition superyacht at Kleven Shipyard in Norway, although a 140-meter project was reportedly ordered elsewhere.
Italy once again led the superyacht market share, based on total meters, with 39%, followed by the Netherlands at 19%, Germany at 9%, Turkey at 7% and the United Kingdom at 6%.
