Tankoa Mega Yachts New Designs
Andrea Bacigalupo provided Saetta’s naval architecture. Three MTU 16V 200 series engines with twin KaMeWa water jets plus a booster will power her to a top speed of 28 knots and a cruising speed of 24 knots. Like the 58-meter Open that preceded her, Saetta represents a return to the Baglietto roots of Tankoa’s management team.
Prior to 2005, Baglietto and Heesen were the only European manufacturers construction large mega yachts capable of 30 to 35 knots, according to Michel Karsenti, Tankoa sales director. When Karsenti joined Tankoa in 2013, he advised the management team that as a start-up brand, the builder should introduce entry-level vessels of approximately 50 meters LOA in addition the 70-meter-plus yachts. This led to the 50-meter semi-displacement Vertige and several other models, including the planning 58-meter Open. Owners who have a Mangusta 108, for example, may not necessarily want to step up to a 58-meter yacht, so Tankoa had to develop another model so that it would have a range of fast boats.
After the positive reception that Vertige garnered in Monaco and Fort Lauderdale, Tankoa has experienced a growth in inquiries for 50 meter mega yachts and smaller for a variety of reasons. Some prospective clients are asking for yachts in the range of 40 to 43 meters, while others want superyachts 70 meters and larger but don’t want a vessel with five decks.
