Transportation company Harvey Gulf International Marine has acquired superyacht builder Trinity Yachts and all of its affiliated commercial vessel companies, including Gulf Coast Shipyard in Gulfport, MS. Gulf Coast Shipyard Group also includes facilities in New Orleans. Terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
Harvey Gulf describes itself as a marine transportation company specializing in offshore supply and multi-purpose support vessels for deepwater operations. The new company, now calling itself Harvey Shipyard Group, will focus on construction the first liquefied natural gas-powered offshore supply vessels for the American oil and gas drilling market. The Shipyard Group will also manage Trinity Yachts. Harvey Gulf will invest $350 million in offshore fleet operations
Billy Smith, former partner in Trinity Yachts, has confirmed the acquisition. Where this leaves Trinity’s superyacht operations is uncertain, even though Smith is optimistic about the brand’s future because of its history and experience. Smith speculated that superyacht construction will continue if the new owners believe it can be profitable.
