Heesen Sells Superyacht Project Maia: Dutch shipyard Heesen has sold its sixth superyacht of 2017 as Project Maia has reportedly been bought by an American buyer. Heesen characterizes the purchaser as a serial owner who took about a year performing research and has previously owned several superyachts. The yacht is approximately six months away from completion.
The owner was reportedly drawn to the styling developed by designer Clifford Denn. Project Maia retains hallmark Heesen elements that include pronounced, muscular curves, which Denn has emphasized. The design also pays homage to car designer Henrik Fisker with a grille that emphasizes a cat’s whiskers.
Features reportedly requested by the owner include an exterior light grey color scheme that will both complement and contrast with interior styling. Reymond Langton Design is responsible for the interior, which features bleached oak and stained walnut for paneling and other surfaces. Light taupe leather and other subdued fabric tones characterize the backdrop. Artwork and some furnishing will have bolder colors for contrast. LED lights will draw attention to specific areas and art pieces.
The 50-meter yacht will accommodate 10 guests in addition to the owner. Heesen Anticipates the superyacht will achieve a top speed of 15 knots under MTU power. Range is estimated at 3,800 nautical miles at 12 knots.
Project Maia is expected to be delivered to her new owners after extensive sea trials in June 2018.
