Sales volume in Europe in 2014 ended on a strong note as yacht brokers capped a solid fourth quarter. Aggregate sales improved 21 percent during the quarter and 10 percent for all of 2014 with 7,446 boats sold. Total price paid also increased at €1.6 billion, an 18 percent increase over 2013.
Most size segments saw double-digit increases in percentage, with the 46- to 55-foot market gaining the most at 24 percent, with 749 units sold. The 36- to 45-foot segment increased the least at only 4 percent with 1,877 boats exchanging hands.
The number of superyachts sold jumped from 149 in 2013 to 165 in 2014, with a total price of €800 million, increasing by 27 percent. Average price was €4.8 million, up from €4.2 million.
Most other segments saw level or lower average prices, particular for 36- to 45-foot boats, which declined 5 percent or €7,000 in price. Boats under 26-feet, however, provided an exception, as average price increased 14 percent to €21,200.
Powerboat sales provided overall European volume gains by increasing 15 percent to 4,259 boats sold, with a 5 percent higher average price over 2013. Sailboat sales rose 4 percent, with 3,187 units exchanging hands at a 3 percent higher average price. Powerboat sales took 57 percent of the market, compared with 55 percent in 2013.
